Don't know if this has anything to do with it, (and I did not follow the thread completely) but at school, running 100 baseT ether we had some relatively new iMacs absolutely crawling, when loading a FileMaker webconnection file out of a G4 server. I downloaded the new Java from the apple site...2.2.3.. It fixed the problem instantly.
