tedd: I have been using an Asante FR3004 router along with an Asante 5 port 10BT hub on a 5 Mac network (2 Wintel machines to be added in the future) for several months now with ATT Roadrunner (cable modem), and I am very happy with it. I have had 2 conversations with Asante Tech Support (800-622-7464), and found the tech person to be pleasant and helpful. I was worried about Intrusions where the router's log file showed lots of 'Unrecognized access from 63.227.81.193:21 to TCP port 21', and he steered me to a router firmware update that had a 'disable ping' option so the router wouldn't respond to the unwanted query. He told me that Asante is a small company (20-40?), and is very oriented towards the Mac - definitely the kind of place I would vote for with my money. You said > So, what that means is that once you hook all your computer up to the > router, they all have access to the net AND to the printer -- kewl. AFAIK, the FR3004LC is configurable as a print server for Windows only. Also, following your lead I bought a Newer Maxpower G3 400 MHz upgrade card for my aging, but physically robust 7600 (who knew they would go out of business soon thereafter?). Works great, with a small display ghosting problem that was solved by reducing the backside cache speed to 160 MHz. The old puppy is frisky again - thanks for the recommendation.
