MP3's are what Napster allowed people to share (surely you've heard of that!) There are alternatives out there. Plus new iBooks ship with around 100 or so actual licensed MP3's (a very rare thing, they). You can also "rip" your own from your own CDs. iTunes will do it for you, as well as others.
