i would second rc on his [wise*] words. although my knowledge of modem stuff
and serial communications would fill the back of a grain of rice with my
current eye sight, i have read not only your enquiry, but the ensuing
suggestions. i supposed, as probably did others, that you were busy carrying
those through, as they were certainly the wisest at that point.

once you have tried those [as you probably have], describe your failure in
not immodest terms [we all have some glorious failures], and i'm sure that
those who first uttered the suggestions will pull in and do more.

did you, btw, have a look at the serial code posted recently by one of our
japanese friends [Masakazu Nakao], as i'm sure that this, also, might give
an interesting and solid base.

i can understand your frustration. the only succour that i can offer is that
i have frequently felt the same, and then suddenly, quite often, things
start falling into place!
