Here is the paper note included with the European Edition of FB^3
Release 6 (I have the feeling it is not useless to post that here,
Lord knows why):

Release 6 is a major update and so we simply don't have space for
the usual list of new features and improvements. They are simply too
numerous to mention here. However, we can provide a few highlights
for FutureBASIC programmers old and new.

While your old programs will still continue to run as usual, two new
important features are going to change your programming experience
with FutureBASIC.

Major New Features

• Carbon:
Yes, it's here! FutureBASIC can now compile for Carbon. This great
feature lets your programs run natively under Mac OS X, as well as
under Mac OS 8.5 to 9 with CarbonLib.

• New Appearance-compliant runtime:
You can see it just as an enhanced Standard runtime but many
keywords have been empowered with sometimes powerful new features
(for example, the easy filtering of edit fields). With very few
changes, legacy code can still function in this new environment. New
commands have also been introduced to lever the natural advantages
of the Appearance Manager. You will greatly benefit from using them
(for instance, you will find that the BUTTON and WINDOW statements
are still supported, but APPEARANCE BUTTON and APPEARANCE WINDOW
have even more hot features to offer). Note that you cannot compile
for 68K machines with this runtime.

Quick roadmap

• Read the "Start Here" file. A wide selection of new possibilities
is presented in this document.

• Browse the "Reference Manual". Hint: perform a search on 'Release
6', you will quickly jump to the changes and new features that the
manual explains carefully.

• Read the short documentation "Porting to Carbon" available under
the Help menu.

• There are over 1500 example files included on the FB^3 CD. Most of
them have been rewritten, cleaned up, or corrected in order to run
with Carbon. Not only you will also find a bunch of new examples,
but possible solutions to problems that you might face when porting
your old code.

• Pay attention to the demo files dealing with the Appearance
runtime. There is a special folder on the CD.

• Want to know more about Carbon? Go visit STAZ Software's brand-new
web site (http://www.stazsoftware.com/) or the European site, still
available in English, Italian and French
(http://euro.futurebasic.com/). We guarantee that you'll not only
find there useful information, but also details of the FutureBASIC
mailing list, the new News Wire service, and all the new technotes
and other resources.
See you there!
