in the coding style, i agree. however the 'inelegance' that
hit these poor gnomic eyes was the mixing of 'appearance button'
with simple 'button' statements.

it is a wonderous thing that 'button' does this all transparently.
and i don't contest that. there are just obscure idiots like me
who will wish to do this all in appearance commands. that is why
i posted it.

however, by understanding how this hinky stuff works, we can also
do dumb things like... have no button 'throbbing' and then
following a user action -- or a time out -- set it throbbing.

anyway, as i said, all this is just misguided speculation.
