Two recent list posts by Robert Purves that appeared consecutively on the Associate server web site http://associate.com/digests/futurebasic/ezmlm.cgi?iis:0:200201 today, 11-2-02, demonstrate a fickle problem that robs some usefulness of the web site: Lost underscores. In message 96: 96: Re: [R7] Serial port control under Mac OS X (Robert Purves) the underscores used in Robert's code to define constants in FB^3 appear just fine. However, in message 97 posted shortly thereafter: 97: Re: Standard Font menu and Carbon (Robert Purves) the underscores have disappeared. I have discussed this problem with a friend of mine who is a network administrator for a Fortune 500 company. He theorized that the Associate server may be running a virus protection program than filters underscores, since hacker code often needs them when writing viruses, worms, etc. However, the problem appears to be random. I have noticed with my posts that sometimes the underscores arrive intact on the web site, but more often than not they are lost in the transmission. The problem does not affect the e-mailed versions of the list. My purpose in writing this is to see if there is anything that can be done to fix the problem here. As Appearance and Control Manager calls have been incorporated into FB^3, along with conventions such as begin/end enum, underscores have proliferated in our code. It would be nice to cut and paste what we see here and have it work, just as it does in the e-mail versions. Then again, maybe I'm the only one bothered by this. Ken
