Hi all,

Concerning Data Rescue under OS86, the right tool seems to be the
$39 trialware "Data Rescue3.0" by the French programmer Sylvain
Demongeot who lives not too far from me (or Alain) --
in Alfortville, France. URL:

http://www.prosofteng.com/ftp/dr/DataRescueLegacy-3.0.2.smi.sit

It is is a fat app presumably good up to OSX (inclusive??).
DataRescueLegacy-3.0.2 is pre-carbon but not known (to me) to
fail anywhere.

The following $79 carbon trialware is what failed for me under
OS86.

http://www.prosofteng.com/ftp/dr/DataRescueClassic-4.3.0.sea.hqx

The adverts on http://www.prosofteng.com do not mention
DataRescueLegacy-3.0.2 as valid beyond OS8.1. Moreover
DataRescueClassic-4.3.0 is recommended there for OS86 with Carbon
Lib 1.5. I reported its failure with OS86 and Carbon Lib 1.6.

In any case, getting any Carbon Lib for OS86 without help from a
wizzard is well nigh impossible since ordinary mortals usually
find that it refuses to install.

Thanks to RC for nudges in the right direction!

Cheers
