To my Non-USA Friends:

Please excuse my American ignorance.

I'm working on a file program that has the option to sort things
alphabetically and it has come to my attention that not everyone in
the world works with an A to Z index (i.e., 26 divisions). In other
words, other peoples in other countries use something other than A to
Z -- for their tabs in phone book, for example.

I realize, that there are different languages, like Chinese and
Japanese, which use completely different glyphs and probably have
different indexing system for what is relevant to their specific
language -- but I would like to consider as many languages as
possible in my programming efforts.

So:

1. Other than the English A-Z, what other indexes are there? Please
feel free to answer in Unicode code points.

2. And, what are the divisions? Are they 26, or more, or less, or what?

Many thanks for any answers

tedd
