Amazingly enough Tedd, AOL's native mail control program does a very good job of filtering. Since using it I have very little spam. My problem certainly wasn't as bad as yours, but it was enough to be annoying. They have a custom sender list and a custom word list for exclusion. I tried OS X Mail and didn't like it.
