Richard,

Check the version of CarbonLib in your Extensions Folder.  The latest 
available is CarbonLib 1.6.  If you are using Mac OS 8.6 or later, you 
can use CarbonLib 1.6.

You should then be able to take advantage of Carbon.  I would say if 
you can start becoming familiar with the Carbon aspects of FB 
programming, it will be good for future programming.
