Actually, that's how you and I get to know how long the container  
string is. I wondered how FB kept track of it, akin to the first byte  
in a Pascal string, which seems to be updated automatically when the  
string is fiddled with. Something of the sort must be going on with  
the container.

This is, as a matter of fact, something I don't need to know. But I  
didn't need to know that test$[0] was the length of test$ until M.  
Pastor told me I needed to know that, and it's been very handy on a  
number of occasions since.
