What does it do when you try to remove an item from the dock?

Aside from doing the usual maintenance items (i.e. onyX etc.), there
is a chance the dock plist is corrupt. You could try deleting it but
you will probably have to add ALL your icons back into the dock
manually. The name of the plist is com.apple.dock.plist in the user
prefs folder. BTW: onyX does reset the Launch Services database and
that is sometimes (but not often) the cause of problems. My first
stop would be the MacFixit database to see if anything has been
reported. Second, maybe try onyx - but limit it to the LS database.
Lastly, maybe try the plist delete.

Good luck.
