In most cases, you can drag the scroll bar's thumb around and its not too bad. Over time, you really do get used to it. Promise. If you have to select some out of view text, try not to move the mouse too far out of the window, this will slow it down a few notches (still much too fast though). I've been told there are some CDEV's that will fix this, but none spring to mind right now.
