I have experienced the same problem.   
 Solution......Click the mouse at the beginning of the section that you want
to copy so that the I-Beam is set at that point or just hilite the first
letter or two of the section to be copied.  Scroll down (don't drag) to the
end of the section to be copied and hold the SHIFT-KEY down and click the
mouse.  The complete section is hilited and you can copy or delete that
section.  Not as convenient as draging but just as effective.
