Sorry to hear about the problem RC. I had the same trepidation when purchasing my iMac a week or two ago. Luckily, I have seen no issues ( purchased directly via Apple’s online store ).
AFAIK, Apple has been good about replacing or refunding in these situations and I would pursue that option if in your position. Best of luck.
