I am asking pretty much the same question, from a similar viewpoint.
There is a language called "Objective-Basic" (http://www.objective-basic.com/
) which I know almost nothing about but it might fit the bill. The
present version requires 10.7 but there is a 10.6 version which can be
provided upon request. Since I have 10.5.8 I am not presently able to
check it out. Has anyone tried it? The manual is in slightly broken
English (developer is German) and not very extensive. There may be
limitations – the manual states that "There are no class variables or
class functions yet, all variables and functions are useable together
with objects only". As this still is "mumbo-jumbo" (to quote your
excellent phrase) to me, I don't kow how serious a limitation this is.

Obj-Basic claims to be free for non-commercial use. If anyone who
knows more than I about OO programming has tried it, I would be
interested in what they think. I have no other pressing reasons to
upgrade to 10.6 presently, so it would be good to know if this IDE
would make it worthwhile. Or if anyone know of other alternatives.

Regards,

Dan
