I just ran CheckPorts; and it appeared to work fine.  I am connected to 
the net right now, so all it did was tell me the modem was busy.  But I 
think if it got that far, it would be able to do anything else with the 
modem port. Of course, the iMac has no printer serial port.  So I don't 
think you would get very far there.  ;-)
