From the old Z-Basic manual:

Double: defaults to 12, range from 6 to 240
Single: Defaults to 6, range 4 to 2 digits less than Double
Scientific: may be set up to 240

I normally use 24, 14 and 8, respectively, as my defaults, which are taken just
fine by the preferences. I think I arrived at these values years ago after
getting some rounding or other math errors at the default precisions, and have
stuck with them ever since.

I did try your example of 6, 6, 6 (sorry <g>), and the Single stayed as 6,
Double and Scientific went to 8. The Double value will be forced to be at least
2 greater than the Single precision value entered.
