Deborah (Judges 4:4) Where's her prophecy? Where's the "thus saith the Lord?" It says that Deborah was "a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth," Prophetess means the "wife of a prophet" and this verse clearly says that Deborah was the wife of Lappidoth. Therefore Lappidoth was the prophet. Egalitarians love to trot out Deborah as the poster child for women leadership. Yet what is the primary lesson to be learned from Deborah. God shames Barak through Deborah because he refused to do his God-assigned leadership duty. Note what Deborah says "And she said, "I will surely go with you. Nevertheless, the road on which you are going will not lead to your glory, for the LORD will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman." Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh." (Jdg 4:9) God uses a woman to shame a man into doing what he was supposed to do all along and this is the role model we are supposed to follow??? > > 4. Huldah (2 Kings 22:14; 2 Chron. 34:22) > OK, Huldah does say "thus saith the Lord." But also note that the text identifies her as the "wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah." Also note that this story, like Deborah in Judges, takes place during a rebellious time in Israel's history. > 5. Noadiah (Neh. 6:14) Where's her word? > > 6. Isaiah's wife (Isaiah 8:3) Clearly the wife of a prophet. What word did she speak? If getting pregnant is the role of a prophetess, then I'm all on board. :-) > > 7. Elizabeth (Luke 1:41-45) Elizabeth is not called a prophet and she doesn't utter any prophecy. The Lord does give her insight into the baby that Mary is carrying, but I never said that God couldn't speak TO a woman. > > 8. Phillip's four daughters (Acts 21:9) If they were prophets then why aren't their words recorded? Why did God send Agabus to give the word that Paul would be imprisoned if there were four prophetesses there already? -- Grace and peace, Kevin Sigafoos --------------------- For from him and through him and to him are all things.
