Hi Jeff,

Dr. Mohler did say that there MIGHT be some biological basis for a
homosexual inclination. He stressed that it has not been proven yet,
but we shouldn't be surprised if a biological link is found. After
all, the Fall has effected our entire being, including our genetic
makeup. A lot of diseases and moral failures are the result of our
messed-up, post-Genesis 3 world.

The context of Dr. Mohler's comments was the publication of a
government study demonstrating a genetic link to homosexual activity
among sheep. Furthermore, the study suggested that the sheep's
inclination could be changed with therapy. This, of course, opens up
the possibility that a similar link might be discovered in humans and
that a similar therapy might be effective among humans as well. Dr.
Mohler wrote a blog entry and devoted a day on his radio show on the
topic.

It is an interesting topic and thoughtful Christians should be
prepared to deal with the issue. Would finding a biological/genetic
cause of homosexual behavior change its morality? Dr. Mohler said
that it would not and I agree. There are a lot of immoral activities
that have a biological/genetic link. Alcoholism, for instance. It
would not be right for me to abuse alcohol simply because my genetic
background made it probably that I would become an addict. The same
would be true if there was a biological cause for homosexuality.

The other issue is the possibility of finding a "cure" for
homosexuality. Homosexual advocates have been saying for years that
they have no choice for their behavior. "We were born this way," they
say. Now that the possibility exists that a genetic/biological cause
could be found, the homosexual lobby is decrying it's discovery. Why?
Because the same groups that are pro-gay are also pro-abortion.
Would these "open-minded" women choose to bring a baby into the world
if they knew there was a good chance the their sons might be gay? We
are already seeing a vast genocide of Down's Syndrome babies. Might a
genocide of gay babies be next? That's not a chance that the
homosexual lobby want to take.

How should a Christian react if she discovered that her unborn son had
a high likelihood of turning out gay? She should, of course, still
love that child and give birth to him. If it were possible to remove
through hormonal therapy what might turn out to be a major area of
temptation for him in his adult life, should not a loving Christian
mother take advantage of this therapy? I think so.

What are your thoughts, Jeff? In your opinion, would finding a
biological/genetic link to homosexuality change it's moral status?
Would you council your son or daughter to take advantage of hormonal
therapy if it were discovered that his/her unborn son was likely to be
a homosexual when an adult?
