Steve,

>>>Are you now the official pastor there? What is the name of the church?

Yes. They called me as pastor toward the end of July.

I first preached several times doing pulpit supply, then they asked if they
could take me out for lunch. When I realized they had a definite number
taking me out I asked who the group was and they told me it was their search
committee.

After several interviews (both with the search committee and with the
congregation), with extensive background and credit checks, I preached again
in view of a call and the church voted to extend the call as pastor. It was
simply amazing how God worked to bring us together.

The church's name is Union Baptist Church. It is one of the oldest churches
in the town of Elgin (we are actually about 2 miles out of town). Elgin is a
small town just outside of Columbia, SC. The church was organized in 1861,
started out of another Baptist church about 8 miles distant. Both churches
were burned by Sherman's troops after he had taken Columbia and was on his
way into North Carolina.

Jerry
PS: I do not get to listen to the radio programs of RC Sproul, John Piper,
and the 'gentleman' on Family Radio anymore, ... but that's OK, ... I am now
able to devote all of my energies to serving God by serving people in His
name, instead of helping the owners of the courier company make a fortune.
