Brothers, thank you for your replies. We have always raised our hands in praise and worship to the Lord. I see the scriptures referring to this practice but I read an interesting article by Zola Levitz. In it he stated that we raise our hands in rememberance of the sacrifice Jesus made. The hands raised represent the only man-made thing God has let into Heaven. The holes in Jesus' hands were man-made. I am not sure how I feel about that statement but it is interesting.
