Hey, Doc. not wanting to get into the version issue, again not wanting to 
get into the version issue,  but

looks to me that "the powers of hell" is the aggressor.

Matt.16:18b ... upon this rock I will build my church; and the 
    gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 

in the KJV looks to me that HIs church is the aggressor.

the gates of hell are being attacked by His church -- Jude 1:22,23
