Brian, while attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, I had a
friend who had pastored a particular SBC church in the area for 3 years. He
was a very evangelistic pastors and practiced what he preached. A black
family moved into the area and he was the first to visit them. He led
several of them to the Lord and invited them to make their professions
public that Sunday at his church. The family did and even requested
membership. The very next week the church fired my friend because of his
invitation to this family to join his church!
God Figure!

   Hey Gang,

Please allow me to commend you for the civil manner in which this
discussion is being held. It's obvious that agreement will probably not be
reached, but that's okay. Disagreement is not a sin.

My own personal take, not having read any of the links provided by
Brother Vaughn and others, is that I am wary of organizations requiring
oaths of secrecy, as I understand the Masons require.

My denomination (Wesleyan) does not allow members of such societies to
become members of the church, because of the "quasi-religious nature" (to
quote our Discipline) and because of the oaths required. This would, of
course, include groups such as the KKK.

Speaking of the KKK, could someone explain to me why people can call
themselves Christians yet spew hateful words toward blacks and Jews? Where
is the Scriptural justification for that? Not to mention the horrific
treatment in the form of hangings, beatings, unlawful imprisonment, etc.
Not sure Jesus approves of that!

   Brian
