From: hussamd@skyenet.net Subject: 3DFunctions 2.2.1 Functions of two variables are difficult to reproduce on paper because they exist in 3-D space. 3-D Functions supplies the user with different functions to choose from, to add or multiply or divide up to 10 function combinations into a special function. Also supplied is a bunch of preset functions and one nested function. Version 2 adds the option of contour plots and constraint functions that can be used in optimization problems, where the user has to identify the region where the function is at an minimum value, etc... Version 2.2 added the feature of producing a quicktime movie of a rotating surface. The current plot position is rotated 360 degrees about the z-axis in one degree increments. The demo is limited to a preset function. The full version can assemble multiple functions (see documentation). From: Vincent Verweij Subject: 3D Launcher 1.1 (updated) 3D Launcher is a utility that puts spinning, threedimensional icons in a control bar on the desktop. It can be used to launch favorite and commonly used programs. It provides shortcuts to frequently used applications, such as word processors, image editing and compression software. But first of all it makes the Mac-desktop more fun! Apple has been including the Launcher-control panel for some years. It used to be called 'Starter' under system 7.5. Now 3D Launcher brings that same functionality with a much better looking interface. Designed by a professional graphic artist, 3D Launcher icons spin, move and shake to liven up your desktop. 3D Launcher needs at least a 120 mhz Macintosh Power PC with Quicktime 2.1 or higher. System 7.5 or higher is the minimum to run this program. 3D Launcher costs only $15 for private use. A corporate license (unlimited users) is $100. With a serial number, which can be ordered online and is provided within seconds after payment, 3D Launcher becomes fully-functional. When run as a demo it only launches some items. license: demo shareware fee: $15 catagory: utilities homepage: http://www.xs4all.nl/~invaders/3dlauncher.html questions: mailto:invaders@xs4all.nl

From: jennings@halcyon.com (James Jennings) Subject: AGASlider 1.2, Source for a PowerPlant Control AGA Slider v 1.2: A demo of an Apple Grayscale Appearance class. AGA Slider is a Codewarrior 9/PowerPlant project for demonstrating the CAGASlider class. It also includes "group box" and "bevel" attachment classes. CAGASlider is a PowerPlant LControl that looks like a slider from the Apple Grayscale Appearance for System 7. It is not a CDEF. Apple's docs on the AGA show you what things look like to the pixel, but, alas, they don't explain behaviors. I had to guess, mostly by imitating the sliders in the system control panels. Note that, while Codewarrior 10 comes with it's own AGA classes, it does not yet have a slider class. Key Features: The kind of slider (the direction of the point on the indicator) is set via a pop-up menu in Constructor. The number of tick marks, if any, can all be set in constructor. Uses offscreen GWorlds for flicker-free tracking. Reasonable black and white appearance, even when split across multiple screens. New in this version: Reflects Apple's "flatter" disabled appearance (as of September 1996) The direction of increasing values can be set in Constructor. James Jennings jennings@halcyon.com I give permission for contents of this archive to be included on the Info-Mac CD-ROM.

Date: 13 Nov 91 10:33:00 CDT From: "ROBIN JACKSON" Subject: AppleTalk-Manager-0.5 APPLETALK MANAGER v0.5 ---------------------- Fixes for demo version ATM 0.5: 1. Now creates its own Network Data folder if its not found, this means you can run ATM from anywhere on your disk. The program will not bomb if this folder is not found. 2. The Application memory size has been pre-set to 750k, this allows ATM to run under Multifinder. 3. The "Echo" function has been improved. Echo as an implementation under DDP does not seem to work in the prescribed manner in "Inside Mac" Vols II and V, and also Inside Appletalk. I have developed an algorhthym that takes care of about 9956f ECHO, some errors still occur but very few. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ATM 0.4 This little program was developed as an exercise, just like a lot of other peoples I guess. In the writting of this program I learn't that there are a few untruths or things just plain left unsaid. For instance you would think that all Macs and LaserWriters would have AEP (AppleTalk Echo Protocol) built in, this seems not to be the case. When you activate this program and after the Mac has finished making its report of the network, you can double click on the desired node in the list and 100 packets are sent to that node using AEP. AEP is a possible test of the line quality between nodes, this is not strictly true, ie. if a PC node is buisy packets can be lost and therefore alter your interpretation of the results. The display consists of Bridge data, Zone data, currently visible entities, an AEP dissplay and two fake boxes. There are also a couple of fake menus, as you will see the interface kind of evolved in the writting. Its a simple matter to remove the unwanted stuff. The program sorts all the NVE's (Network Visible Entities) Alphabetically and by Node address, other information is provided along with these files,ie, numbers of nodes, data and time etc and Zone plus Bridge data. The program has been of use at this site because there are well over 150 NVE's to deal with. I would have liked to implement a graphic load averager, but I get too buisy these days to sit down and concentrate on it. Anyway hope its of use to you, I can be reached (312)-702-3674 (work) or (312)-955-1932 (home). My email address is jackson@biovax.uchicago.edu. Please feel free to ask any questions. It requires Apple's ARA 1.0 or 2.x software and System 7.x. This version has been updated specifically to be compatible with Apple's ARA 2.1, and it's use of a "Modem Scripts" folder. Also new for ARAScripter 2.1 is the ablility to turn ARA "Answer calls" on or off via AppleScript. This is a fully functional demonstration version that will expire 30 days after first use. The file is also avaiable at: ARACommander 2.1 features include a full scheduling capability. Connections can be scheduled at any time and be completely unattended. Disconnection can be unattended as well, by specifying a number of minutes of idle time before disconnection occurs. Full support for scripting with AppleScriptt is also provided. A special application called ARAScripter serves as a scriptable ARA client. Scripters may enable any of the features of ARACommander through script commands, and have full control over the entire range of the connection process. One of the central features of ARACommander are Connectors, mini applications that go beyond the basic capabilities of Apples's connection documents or ARA aliases. The ARACommander control panel can create Connectors that automatically connect to an ARA server when launched. You can also use the control panel to connect to an ARA server. From: (Bretton Wade) bwade@qualia.com Subject: BSP Tree Demo 1.5 This file is a demonstration program of how to use Binary Space Partitioning Trees to perform hidden surface removal for 3D rendering. It is primarily intended as reference material for programmers. The "BSP Tree Demo" application is an example of how Binary Space Partitioning trees can be used to solve the hidden surface problem in 3D rendering. BSP trees are used extensively in games like Doom and Quake, as well as for more scientific applications such as solid modelling and ray tracing. Complete source is provided for this application in Metrowerks CodeWarrior 9 format. This includes: - A simple widget set used to implement the user interface on an Apple Macintosh computer. - A modest library of 3D graphics code, including camera control, transformations, Ken Shoemake's ArcBall controller, Polygons, points, vectors, planes, and other useful code primitives. - An example of how to use these primitives to build a working object viewer. The Demo is a "fat" application. It requires System 7.0, and a minimum of 68020 with FPU to run. The source could be recompiled without the 68020 and FPU code options to allow execution on lesser machines. For more information about BSP trees, see the Binary Space Partitioning Tree FAQ located at: http://www.qualia.com/bspfaq/ I give permission for my program to be included on the Info-Mac CD-ROM. bwade@qualia.com http://www.qualia.com/~bwade/

From: bobs@saintjoe.edu (Robert Schenk) Subject: Chess Fonts Package (demo) The ChessEdit program allows one to more easily format a chess board. Once one constructs a "key" containing the positions of all the pieces, one need never again worry about where each of the chess pieces is located on the keyboard. Included with it is a simple chess font. Also included is ChesShow which illustrates eleven chess fonts designed by Ingrimayne Type. ChessEdit and ChesShow program are intended to entice you to purchase a collection of eleven chess fonts from Ingrimayne Type. As of the time of this writing, the only place to purchase these eleven chess fonts is at . The price is $29.95. This demo version of the package may be distributed freely provided no alternations, either subtractions or additions, are made to it. Change history, pricing, and complete contact info near the end of the Read me. * What is it ? * Collect HTML is an XTension for XPress 3.1 or higher that allows you to convert text from Quark pages into HTML format. - Styles can be converted into HTML pre- and suffixes. - Collect creates interlaced GIF, JPEG or PICT previews from Quark pages or from text or picture boxes. - You can put links to local or remote URL's on selected text from within Quark; these links are stored within the Quark document for subsequent collections. Collect is not well suited to convert complete Quark pages; it better for 'clipping' articles from large pages (e.g. a newspaper) for Web publication. HTML is not as rich in features as Quark is, so do not expect a WYSIWIG behaviour in HTML. Collect just tries to help you to create good-looking HTML documents from Quark pages. The demo version time limited in a few ways: it is usable until December 31,1996, and each time disables itself 5 minutes after startup of Quark. The demo version also has the GIF support removed.

From: kworley@fascination.com (Kenneth Worley) Subject: CopyBits Demo 3.1 CopyBits Demo 3.1 is Freeware and may be included on the CD version of the Info-Mac archives. Requires System 7 or later. CopyBits Demo is an example project that gives several examples of using CopyBits to copy pictures both on screen and between offscreen Graphics Worlds and an onscreen window (as well as between GWorlds). It also allows you to experiment with using CopyBits, CopyMask, and CopyDeepMask using different images, masks, and transfer modes. It does all the following things using CopyBits and its variations: 1) Fade an area of the screen to black (using three different methods). 2) Demonstrates "flickering" regular animation vs. smooth animation. 3) Fades one image into another. (and new in v2.0) 4) "Pixelizes" and "depixelizes" an image (an animation effect where the picture ends up in a very blocky representation of the original). 5) Blurs an image. 6) Flips an image horizontally or vertically. 7) Applies fading effects to the entire screen rather than just part of a window. (and new in v3.0) 8) Slides one image onto another from any of the four major directions. 9) Imposes one image onto another inside a growing circle, or outside a shrinking circle. 10) Demonstrates several of the techniques on the full screen rather than just part of the window. 11) Demonstrates font anti-aliasing using CopyBits with the ditherCopy constant added to the transfer mode. All the code and the project file to build the demo app is included (Metrowerks CodeWarrior C). The code is well documented. Written by Kenneth Worley - KNEworley@aol.com

From: info@macsoft.com Subject: Damage Incorporated Demonstration Version Welcome to the Read This file for the demo version for Damage Incorporated. The game places you as a Sergeant commanding a team of Marines in a real-time 3D environment, wherein you try to issue them orders while keeping yourself alive. Though experienced players of other 3D games (such as a wee game known as Marathon, from which this game derives its "engine") may be able to blow through some of the early levels without the help of their team, the levels get hard enough later on that most will be doomed without strategically using their squad. You may distribute this Demonstration Version of Damage Incorporated freely using whatever means (electronic, via magnetic or optical media, or through whatever means you desire) and to whomever you see fit, as long as it is left unaltered and this "Read This" file is included with it. This demo features four levels, three single player and one network, from the final game. The first two single player levels are the actual first two from the full game, and as such aren't too hard. The third, however, is from near the end of the game, and as such is rather difficult. Though the Shocktroopers have been toned down for this Demo somewhat, don't be embarrassed if you get your butt handed to you on this third level quite a bit. The demo version only includes 8 bit sound and graphics, limits network games to five-minute two-player combat, offers you only 4 marines to take with you on your missions, and drastically reduces squad-member conversation.

Diamonds 3D requires a mouse or similar pointing device. Diamonds 3D requires 2300K of memory (3000K is required to use background music). Diamonds 3D should perform acceptably (60 frames/second animation) on any Quadra or Centris system, any Power Macintosh, and on many other systems, including Performa models in the 5xx, 6xx, 5xxx, and 6xxx series. Diamonds 3D may run slowly (but otherwise correctly) on older Macintosh hardware. Diamonds 3D is accelerated for Power Macintosh. For best results, quit all other applications before playing Diamonds 3D. Services and utilities such as File Sharing, Control Strip, PrintMonitor, Remote Access, MacPPP, and other background tasks may perform poorly while Diamonds 3D is running, or may cause Diamonds 3D to perform poorly. Do not play Diamonds 3D on a Macintosh PowerBook computer running only from battery power. Diamonds 3D may interfere with proper system sleep behavior when the battery runs out. How to play Diamonds 3D After Diamonds 3D has loaded, start playing by clicking on the "NEW" button, or by choosing "New" from the Game menu, or by typing Command-N. Move the paddle over the ball and click once to launch the ball into play. You can hold the ball on the paddle briefly by holding down the mouse button. To end a game during play, type Command-W. To quit the game at any time, type Command-Q, or if no game is in progress, click on the "QUIT" button or choose "Quit" from the Game menu. If the ball gets stuck, hold down the mouse button, and move the paddle in the direction you want the ball to go. The ball will be gently attracted to the paddle while you hold the button down. You may be able to figure out what to do while playing just by experimenting. Or, you can read this paragraph for some quick instructions. To complete each level you must clear all of the Diamond bricks. In level one, there are no other bricks to worry about. After level one, you must clear all of the Color bricks before you can clear any Diamond bricks. After level two, you must have the correct ball color in order to clear the color bricks. Hit the Color Energizer brick to change the color of the ball, then clear the matching Color bricks. The full version of Diamonds 3D contains 50 levels. Many surprises beyond just Color Energizers await as you explore these increasingly challenging levels. And, a secret surprise awaits those who reach level 50. Diamonds 3D also features optional stereo sound and music. Order your copy today! From: Vince Subject: WAVES IN MOTION RELEASES DOCUSCRIPT 2.0 FOR FILEMAKER PRO FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WAVES IN MOTION RELEASES DOCUSCRIPT 2.0 FOR FILEMAKER PRO New version includes improved script reporting and automatic problem detection Contact: Vince Menanno Phone: 602-956-7080 Fax: 602-956-6754 E-mail: info@wmotion.com Web: http://www.wmotion.com PHOENIX. December 17, 1999. Over the last few years, DocuScript has shown itself to be an invaluable tool for Filemaker developers looking to troubleshoot and document their projects. Now with improved script reporting and automatic problem detection, it has become even easier for developers to rediscover their scripts. Aim DocuScript at a FileMaker project and it will extract every script in every file and quickly generate a series of reports -- starting with an overview of the files in the project, right down to the individual script steps. Click on a reference to an external script, and DocuScript instantly jumps to that script. Move through scripts step by step, or let DocuScript trace through an entire script for you and build a hierarchical report of every instruction, every external script, and every recursion. One of the new features in DocuScript 2.0, and one that will appeal to anyone responsible for large FileMaker projects, is the small, but powerful Problem Dot. DocuScript now automatically searches through all your scripts and marks any file containing an error, including such things as broken relationships, missing fields, and missing layouts. Click on a file name and you'll find another Problem Dot next to each problem script. Click on a script and continue to follow the dots straight to the bugs. You can generate a Problem Report that summarizes all the problems found by DocuScript, or perform your own customized searches across all the files in your project. Search for a field name, a status function, or any of the standard FileMaker terms built into the DocuScript search engine. With all this script information gathered together, DocuScript is also the perfect tool for documenting your projects. You can add comments anywhere in the project database generated by DocuScript or easily copy the information you need into your own reports. DocuScript requires FileMaker 5.0 running under Mac OS 7.6.1 or better on a PowerPC-equipped Macintosh. You can purchase DocuScript for $79.00 US, online from the Waves In Motion website, or upgrade your current copy for $39.00. For all their products, Waves In Motion offers a demo version you can try before you make your purchase. The demo version of DocuScript allows you to try out all the features in the application, but does not allow you to save your work. Waves in Motion is the developer of a growing collection of FileMaker solutions and plug-ins, including Script Scheduler, the Analyzer, and The Dragon Web Surveys. File Name: edit-comment-15-demo-cw.hqx (44 k)

Date: Tue, 4 Apr 1995 02:00:14 -0700 From: jazmann@shell.portal.com (Larry Gerndt) Subject: Edit Comment CW 1.5 Announcing Edit Comment for Code Warrior: From: Larry Gerndt email: jazmann@shell.portal.com Do you use source control, such as Projector, SourceSafe, Source Manager, or SourceServer? If so, do you use Code Warrior as your editor? If you answered yes to both, you will definitely want this utility, so read on: (An equivalent version of this program is available for Think environments) What it does: This add-on to the Think or Code Warrior environments adds an "Edit Comment..." item to the Edit menu. When you choose it, it will present an editing window which shows the revision comment of the front window's file (and other source control information). Of course, the file must be under source control (Projector , SourceServer, or SourceSafe). These programs accomplish their source control by attaching a resource of type 'ckid' to each file they control. The information in the 'ckid' resource includes the current revision number and a comment about the changes in that revision. This is what Edit Comment edits. It extracts the comment text from the 'ckid' of the file you're currently editing and puts up an editing window that shows the current revision and displays the comment text in an editable field. (This demo version doesn't save changes, but is otherwise fully functional) Having Edit Comment makes it possible (and easy) to create your comments about the changes you make to a file AS YOU'RE MAKING THEM, without switching to another app. And these comments go right into the 'ckid', meaning the file is ready to check in, so you don't have to enter any comment during checkin. The result: accurate comments, no pre-check-in diffing to recall what you did to the file, and no comment entering needed at check in time. Besides the main advantages above, another very useful thing about Edit Comment is just that you can see, at any time, which project a file lives in, and what revision it is. This is really helpful if you want to then query the database to look at previous revisions. And yet another advantage: Edit Comment can also change a "mod-read-only" file back to "Read-Only" (something no one else let's you do). How many times have you made a file "mod read only" only to later change your mind about changing the file...too late, from this point on, the source control system will demand you either check it in or trash it (it won't write over it). Edit Comment to the rescue. All you have to do is make it "Read-Only" again, by choosing this in your host environment's Edit Menu (courtesy of Edit Comment). Like I said, I think you'll really find Edit Comment essential. But you try it yourself and see what you think. The price is $25. When you're ready to order, just send me an email and tell me the check's in the mail (and put the check in the mail!), and I'll send you a registered version immediately via email. P.S. For the coolest (and possibly the ONLY) Projector/SourceServer and SourceSafe front end GUI, check out the demo of "Source Manager" also available here on AOL. It is only $25, and is a royal pleasure to use, being feature rich, colorful, and intuitive. No other product on the market makes using source control for the Mac so easy and even fun. From: Roy Schulze Subject: eMerge 1.6.2 -- Customerize your e-mail You've got to work hard these days to find your customers, and you've got to work even harder to hold onto them. Especially now with your competition just a click away on the Internet. Sure, you've got your website broadcasting to anyone who wanders into range, and you probably send the odd announcement out to everyone on your mailing list, but what are you doing about the personal service that gives everyone exactly what they need and keeps your customers coming back? Customerize your e-mail eMerge lets you move beyond sluggish e-mail clients, cumbersome distribution lists, and impersonal list servers by combining the power of bulk e-mail with the sophistication of e-mail merge. Product announcements. Passwords. Invoices. eMerge sends its messages directly to each customer, one at a time, personally and privately...and fast! Import any mailing list And with eMerge 1.6, Galleon Software has made the transition to "customerized" e-mail easier than ever with an improved import function that allows you to use the mailing lists from every major Macintosh e-mail client and list server. In fact, now it's dead easy to import just about any data file into eMerge, change the order of your fields, and even assign new form-letter variables on the fly. Drag-and-drop addressing eMerge 1.6 also introduces drag-and-drop addressing that lets you drag any addresses you find right into your eMerge mailing list, from a regular text file or directly from an e-mail message header, if your client supports it. All this allows eMerge to handle a single form letter as easily as it sends off a general announcement. Keep a collection of letters on file for a quick and personal response to all of your customers' common questions. It's easy, it's fast, and it's probably the only way you'll ever stay on top of all that e-mail you're getting. Stuff your attachments And so you don't clog up your customers' mailboxes, eMerge 1.6 now works with Aladdin System's StuffIt Engine to automatically compress message attachments before sending them out. To make the customization of your message even easier, eMerge 1.6 also includes a collection of new variable crunching functions that allow you to move values around in a customer's record, define and modify specific fields, or even generate unique serial numbers for everyone you specify. Download the demo This demo allows you to use all the features of the full version of eMerge, except that you can only send ten messages in any one session, and you can only save the first ten people on your list. For more information, read the documentation included in the eMerge archive, or visit our website at
